Dari - درى
Dari is one of the two official languages in Afghanistan spoken by about 5.5 million people. It is an Iranian language belonging to the Indo-European language family.
In Afghanistan, there are many ethnic groups with their own language. However, about a half of the population speaks Persian and the other half speaks Dari as their official language. Most of the Dari vocabulary is the same as Persian but the difference between them is that Persian has more French borrowed words and Dari has more English.The spoken difference is primarily found in pronunciation.
Due to its historical background, modern Dari has developed with a number of Arabic and Persian loanwords. Dari is spoken in Northern, Central and Eastern Afghanistan. The Central dialect is the standard dialect of Dari.
