Typesetting involves the presentation of text in a graphic form. Our multilingual typesetting team is experienced in dealing with most languages, including right to left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. We handle the typesetting of most Asian and European languages on projects ranging from a simple business card to complex multilingual projects of various designs. The software used includes InDesign, Quark XPress, Adobe Illustrator, PageMaker and others, on both Mac and PC platforms. We also work with Microsoft Office, Publisher and Front Page. Often our clients require vector outlines or eps formats of translated files which we will gladly provide upon request.
We offer a complete service from text translation to typesetting into graphic format. For this purpose, however, we require that you provide the text for translation in MS Word and the original English graphic templates in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or other program. We then proceed to translate your materials in MS Word into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Farsi, Arabic, French, Spanish or any other language. This step is done by our qualified translators and editors.
Upon completion of the translation, we involve our typesetting/desktop publishing team who will typeset your text in the design files that you have provided. The typeset foreign language versions are again checked by the original translators during a post-insertion review. The translators will review the typeset foreign files for typing errors, corrupted characters or misplacement of text. This very last and important step ensures that your foreign language materials are print-ready and linguistically correct.
We recommend that when designing your English materials you bear in mind that some languages expand. So, for example, if you intend to have your promotional brochure translated and typeset in Spanish for your Spanish-speaking audience in the USA, consider the 10-20% word expansion rate for English to Spanish and leave enough space for the Spanish text to fit in your template. Other languages that expand are French, Portuguese and Italian.
