Canadian French Translation for Movies:

Most Hollywood movie French language overdubs for the francophone world are done in Quebec. But as a matter of fact, most are done in Standard - International French. Now the Quebecois are asking why they shouldn’t have their TV shows and international movies translated into Quebecois French? On the other hand – there are only 8 million Quebecois. Do they really need their own localized version?

We say YES!

It’s hard to comprehend the problem when you’re an English speaking person because most of the shows and movies are released in English. Imagine you want to watch foreign films and they are all overdubbed in British English!  Would you understand all the idioms? Would you have the same movie experience? Of course not!

Localized content is a vital part of identification with the subject and characters. Localized movie language allows the film to address an audience directly and in the appropriate cultural environment.
