Examples of challenging projects completed by LingoStar in 2010.

Social Media Multilingual Translation Project

LingoStar provided translation in 21 European languages for a software company. Despite the very low word count, this project was quite challenging, not only because of the number of translators and editors to coordinate but also because of a very topical restriction: the sentence to be translated was a tweet, therefore the translation could not exceed 140 characters! Not an easy task when you consider that text can retract or expand when translated into another language.

Media Company Translation Project

Some of our clients rely on our services on a regular basis. For example, LingoStar translates the program announcements of a TV channel twice a month. The translations are geared specifically for a French Canadian audience; therefore we have the job done by a translator and an editor from Quebec. We always give this assignment to the same linguists to ensure consistency. The very culture-dependent nature of the content makes it necessary to check every reference (titles, for example) to make sure that the translation will correspond to what the viewer will see on screen.

Simultaneous Interpretation Project

LingoStar regularly confirms interpretation projects. In 2010, we provided English-French simultaneous interpreters for an environmental event in Victoria, BC. Simultaneous interpretation assignments are very demanding and require a high level of language competency and knowledge in a particular field. Usually, three interpreters need to be hired for a full day of interpretation so they are able to take turns and render the messages accurately and effectively.

Translation and Voiceover Project

LingoStar also provides voiceover services. These can be combined with translation services if needed. In 2010, we translated a script for a corporate video from English to Spanish, German and Swedish, as well as provided the voice-over for each language. This process involved finding qualified voice-over artists with fluency in the required languages to provide us with voice samples, which required approval by the client. Once the voice-over artists were approved, they submitted high-quality voice recordings of the script.

Multilingual Typesetting Project

One example of DTP services provided by LingoStar can be found in a project we completed for a non-profit organization in 2010. We translated a brochure from English to Farsi, Arabic and Simplified Chinese, before assigning the desktop publishing work to a multilingual professional typesetter and providing the client with print-ready brochures in the languages requested.

Governmental Project

Among its loyal clients, LingoStar can also include the Canadian Government. Of course translation between French and English is a major component of these requests, but we have also completed projects for agreements of international importance. In doing these projects we have proven our ability to handle highly confidential content.

Mining Translation Project

In 2010, LingoStar provided a mining company with translation of a technical document from  Spanish into English. Before setting its mind on LingoStar, the client requested quotes from other companies. Even though these companies provided competitive quotes, the mining company chose LingoStar because we were the only company who could deliver the translation within the rush turnaround time that they had requested.

Certified | Official Translation Projects

Anyone might need a translation one day so LingoStar also offers language services to individuals who require certified translation of an official document (birth certificate, diploma, etc.) to complete an application, often for immigration purposes or colleges and universities. LingoStar makes sure that the documents are translated by a certified translator and notarized (if necessary) in the shortest possible delivery time, sometimes within 2-3 days.

IT Translation Project

Another regular client of LingoStar is a software and web development services company. Their needs usually consist of requests for translation of IT texts from English to all major European and Asian languages: European French and Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc. Scanning through the translated pages, it may seem like an easy job to translate computer commands and phrases. However, it requires a specific knowledge and expertise from a translator who is familiar with online games, computer strings and localization rules for a particular language.

Medical Translation Project

In 2010, LingoStar provided a translation of a paper to be published on a rare medical procedure. The paper was over 20,000 words in length and required very specific technical-medical knowledge, so it was a challenge to source qualified and available translators and editors for this project from English to Russian and Spanish. Very little documentation in Russian on this topic had ever been published, so the translator and editor had to do a lot of medical research on terminology in order to complete the project.

Media Company Multilingual Translation and Voiceover Project

In March 2011, we provided translation and voiceover services to a world-renown Media company for production of a popular video game. The project involved translation and localization of an English script into four languages and cultures, making sure that each foreign language script was authentic in its local references and idioms. We then supplied the voiceover talent in five languages, each artist a native speaker in the appropriate dialect and well-versed in the specific culture, for a recording session in the client’s studio. A truly challenging but amazing project to be a part of!
